Land Transfer Tax

In Nova Scotia, the Deed Transfer Tax varies by municipality and can’t exceed 1.5% of your property’s value.

Halifax applies the maximum rate, while smaller communities may charge less. You can find the complete list of rates on the Service Nova Scotia website.

Nova Scotia doesn’t currently offer a rebate for first-time homebuyers, but knowing your municipality’s rate helps you plan your budget with confidence.
