Alberta keeps things simple when it comes to home ownership — there’s no land transfer tax here.

Instead, you’ll only pay small registration fees when transferring your property title or registering a mortgage. For the title, it’s $50 plus $5 for every $5,000 of the property’s value. For a mortgage, it’s another $50 plus $5 for every $5,000 of the mortgage amount.

It’s one of the most affordable provinces for closing costs, and while Alberta doesn’t offer a first-time homebuyer rebate, these low fees keep your total costs manageable.
